Franciscan Sister to appear on EWTN

Houston (04-20-2010) – Sister Damien Marie Savino, FSE, Ph.D., along with other faculty members and students will be representing the University of St. Thomas on EWTN's "Life on the Rock." The show will air on EWTN at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Sister Damien Marie will be speaking on the role of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist on the University of St. Thomas campus and her work as professor and chair of the Environmental Science and Studies Department.

Sister Damien Marie holds a doctorate in Philosophy in Engineering with a specialty in Environmental Engineering and a component in Theology from The Catholic University of America. Her published dissertation is entitled, The Contemplative River: The Confluence Between People and Place in Ecological Restoration. Sister Damien Marie has presented internationally on social-ecological systems and her research explores the relationship between science and theology by bringing two paradigms into conversation, one in ecology (C. S. Holling) and one in Franciscan theology (St. Bonaventure).
