LOWELL, MI (06-05-2011) - The Franciscan Community in Lowell celebrated the jubilees of three Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist with a festive Mass followed by a dinner at the Franciscan Life Process Center. Mother Mary Ann Schmitz celebrates 60 years of vowed religious life; Sister Barbara Cline marks 50 years of vows, and Sister Kathryn Mullarkey, 25 years. The Most Reverend Walter A. Hurley, Bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, was the main celebrant of the Mass of Thanksgiving with Father Eugene Wegner, OSF, as concelebrant. Family members, friends, professional colleagues, Franciscan Apprentices, and the Franciscan Community reflected on the generous gift of life each Sister has given, and continues to offer, for the building of the Church. Their unique and varied talents in the areas of finance, land management, education, catechesis, occupational therapy, renewal of religious life and the founding of new programs and centers in the Community give witness to the fruitfulness of 135 years of Community life and service.

After Mass the celebration continued in the Assisi Room at the Center where a meal, prepared by the Lowell Community, was served.  Gifts received will assist in the building of a formation residence at the Community Motherhouse in Meriden, Connecticut. The fidelity of these Jubilarians challenged those present to take seriously the commitments of their particular call in life. It was also a time of awakening and nurturing other men and women called to religious life to be equally generous in their response.

Mother Shaun Vergauwen, Mother General, Mother Miriam Seiferman, Vicar General, and Mother Rosemae Pender, Mother Foundress, all from Connecticut, joined the local Community for the celebration. The three Jubilarians extend thanks to all who were a part of this special time of joy expressed through phone calls, cards, prayers, donations and personal presence.

Congratulations, Mother Mary Ann, Sister Barbara and Sister Kathryn!
