Houston Sisters honored by University of St. Thomas
HOUSTON, TX (02-12-2013) - The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist in Houston were the special honorees of the University of St. Thomas' 63rd Annual Mardi Gras Gala held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston. Cardinal Daniel DiNardo led the opening prayer for more than 400 alumni, friends and donors of the university.
According to the university, the Gala raised more than $800,000 for scholarships.
The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist have lived on the campus and been a part of the university since 1999 when the Community was invited by then President Rev. J. Michael
Miller, C.S.B. who is now Archbishop of Vancouver, B.C. The Sisters are engaged in the life of the university as professors and department chairs, campus ministers and directors of the Augustine Without Walls program.
