Franciscans celebrate Foundation Day with new commitments

MERIDEN, CT (11-29-2015) - In every center across the U.S.A., Jerusalem, and Italy, the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist celebrated their 42nd anniversary of foundation on the First Sunday of Advent. At the motherhouse in Meriden, this year's celebration was marked with two new commitments, representing new life for the Community and the lay faithful. Katelyn Salata, daughter of Chris and Mary Salata of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was received into the postulancy at a private ceremony prior to the Mass, and Wilma Jacunski made a life commitment to Franciscan Apprenticeship in the presence of the Community and her fellow Apprentices at the Eucharistic liturgy. The Community welcomes both women into a deeper relationship and looks forward to the fruit which will be born in the years to come. The Franciscan Sisters and Brothers made a commitment to enter into the Jubilee Year of Mercy as part of the "river of mercy" which God extends to all. The day also marked the 18th anniversary of ordination of Deacon Donald Philip who served as deacon at the Mass.
