Anna Hamman named Sister Christianna

MERIDEN, CT (8-22-2010) - After she was clothed in the habit and veil of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, Anna Hamman, named by her parents after the New Testament prophetess Anna, was named Sister Christianna by Mother Shaun Vergauwen, Mother General. Mother Shaun spoke of Sister Christianna's ability to patiently and steadily wait in many different processes, in likeness to Anna the prophetess who waited for years in the temple for the coming of Christ. Mother Shaun explained that Sister's new name carries forth not only "Anna" but the challenge to be "another Christ" for others who wait for and are longing for Him.

The private ceremony took place at the Franciscan Sisters' Chapel of St. John in Meriden. Sister Christianna is a graduate of Western Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor of Art in Secondary Education degree with concentrations in Math and Spanish. As a canonical novice, Sister Christianna will spend the coming year learning about Franciscan spirituality, the charism of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist and the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.

On the same day, Rebecca Heffern entered postulancy with the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, which marks her formal entrance into the life of the Community. Rebecca will spend the year of postulancy learning more about religious life and the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist.

Rebecca is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Art in Catholic Studies with a minor in Spanish degree. Rebecca will be teaching Spanish this school year at Saint Thomas Elementary School in Southington, Connecticut.
