MERIDEN, CT (08-05-2012) - Sister John Mary Sullivan and Sister Monica Navalta professed perpetual vows of chastity, poverty and obedience during a joyful, solemn Eucharistic liturgy at Holy Angels Church on August 5, 2012. Principal celebrant was the Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell, Archbishop of Hartford. The church was filled with family and friends of the Sisters.

Sister John Mary's entire immediate family was present, including her mother, Mrs. Darlene Sullivan of Phoenix, Arizona; her two sisters, Margaret and Ella, their husbands and children, also from Phoenix; her six brothers - Jim, Bobby, Paul, Tim, Mike and Peter - their wives and children from Phoenix, Dallas, Omaha and Aurora, Colorado. Sister John Mary's nieces and nephews joined in the celebration by singing the responsorial psalm with the Franciscan Sisters in formation. Several members of Sister John Mary's home parish, St. Gregory the Great in Phoenix, traveled to Meriden for the event.

As Mother Shaun Vergauwen, Mother General, received Sister John Mary's vows, she affirmed Sister's mission to the "domestic church" through fostering the integrity of marriage and family life as a marriage and family counselor.

Sister Monica's guests from out of state represented friends and professional colleagues from her home country, the Philippines, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Long Island, Princeton, Toronto and Halifax. Mother Shaun's response to Sister Monica's profession of vows emphasized Sister Monica's global call as "an international sister" given to the needs of the Church throughout the world, wherever she is missioned. Sister Monica currently serves the Church in the Holy Land through her work at the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem.
