Sisters go to the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia

MERIDEN, CT (09-21-2015) - Seven Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist drove to Philadelphia from the Motherhouse to represent the Community at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia. The four-day event is taking place at the Philadelphia Convention Center from September 22-25, 2015.

Participants and Volunteers
The Sisters represent the Community's ministry to families in various ways - working with elderly, married couples, youth and children in health care, education, social work, counseling, formation of lay associates, and diocesan programs for family life. The Sisters attending are from the Franciscan centers in Bridal Veil, Oregon, Pocatello, Idaho, Lowell, Michigan, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Meriden.

Sister Paula Jean Miller, FSE of Menlo Park, California, is attending the World Meeting as a presenter. She will talk on "Celibate Love: A Witness to the Kingdom of God" on Thursday, September 24th from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. To read more about her presentation, see the World Meeting of Families site. As listed in the program for the event, "Sister Paula Jean Miller, FSE, is professor of moral theology at St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, CA. Her publication, Marriage: The Sacrament of Divine-Human Communion, merited the first doctorate from the John Paul II Institute in Washington, DC. Pope Benedict invited her as a theological expert for the synod on the New Evangelization in 2012. She was a guest on EWTN and was interviewed by CNN’s John Allen and by Salt and Light TV. Sister Paula Jean is a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist, and writes for the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, for which she co-authored The Foundations of Religious Life: 'The Spousal Bond.'"

Following the World Meeting of Families, Pope Francis will attend the Festival of Families on Saturday, September 26, and will celebrate a public Mass on Sunday, September 27 at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. A larger group of Franciscan Sisters and Brothers will join the Sisters to attend these historic events.
